While the Token has been an essential tool since its introduction in 2008, technological developments and security imperatives are driving LuxTrust to review its products to better anticipate future challenges. This transition underlines LuxTrust's ongoing commitment to user protection and security in a constantly evolving digital world.

An historic transition

Historically, the Token has been the main device associated with the LuxTrust electronic certificate (digital identity). However, due to the evolution of online threats, its use no longer meets today’s technological challenges. As a result, LuxTrust is opting for an even more security-focused approach, now placing the LuxTrust Mobile app as the primary product associated with the digital certificate. This transition reflects the company's ongoing commitment to the security and protection of its users in today's digital world.

The discontinuation of the Token responds to the need to adapt LuxTrust devices to regulatory requirements and user security expectations. LuxTrust and its partners are committed to a migration plan towards the LuxTrust Mobile app, to strengthen the security of online transactions.

As of 30 April 2024, 80% of our users have already made the switch to the LuxTrust Mobile app.

The LuxTrust Mobile app: a more secure alternative

The LuxTrust Mobile app is the digital equivalent of the Token, offering an even higher level of security. For example, it allows users to consult the context of each transaction directly on their smartphones: the amount, the name of the beneficiary of a transaction, the name of the merchant for an online payment or the name of a document to be signed electronically. This contextual information allows users to double-check the transaction in progress before validating it.

The app also offers a smoother user experience:

  • it is more convenient: transactions or connections can be confirmed on the user's smartphone, so no need to have the Token handy and risk losing it; 
  • it can be used to universally connect to online applications from a smartphone, tablet or computer;
  • it can be activated at no cost with an active Token.

For those who do not have a smartphone, the LuxTrust Scan is a physical alternative to the Token that provides the same level of security as the LuxTrust Mobile app. The Scan also displays the context of the current transaction, allowing users to review its details before validating them.

User instructions

After 31 December 2024, the Token will no longer be accepted to authenticate or confirm transactions on banking and government platforms.

To be able to connect to online partner platforms, users equipped with a Token will therefore have to link it with the LuxTrust Mobile app before this date. This change applies to both individuals and professionals using a Token. LuxTrust Smartcard users are not impacted by this change.

Commitments to social responsibility and digital inclusion

As part of its commitment to digital inclusion, LuxTrust is working on making its solutions accessible to all. From September, LuxTrust will be offering a program entitled “Inclusion Delivery”. This program consists of getting in touch with users with specific needs via associations or local authorities, to better inform them about the Token replacement products and solutions.

In addition, the LuxTrust teams are already working on making the LuxTrust Mobile app more accessible, in compliance with the law of 8 March 2023 on accessibility requirements applicable to products and services.

Finally, a Token collection and recycling project is currently being prepared to offer customers a way of disposing of their Token in a responsible manner.
